In my experience, the person who has the fob has to be the last one to close the door, when you do this, you will hear one beep then another beep when you walk farther. Reason: I am a hop out and fast walker so I end up always being out of range before the self locking triggers. The fob has a pretty low range for the lock proximity or it could be that you and your passengers don’t get out of the car and close the door in similar times.
