On the atv, the foot shifter system is connected to the shifting clutch. When you press down on the shift lever, it also works the clutch - same as pulling the lever on the mc.

It will cause your clutch to slip and wear out very quickly. A lot of guys recommend Rotella 15w40 diesel oil. It doesnt have the friction modifiers that regular car oils have that cause clutch slippage. I use Honda oil, and the Honda oil filter.
