Bleh. Ability score damage isn't a big issue. Numerous different classes can learn the lesser restoration spell early which will cure it a few points at a time and scrolls and potions for it are also sold by merchants. It was infinitely worse in Kingmaker where it happened far earlier, before you even had access nor funds for those things. There are also restoration potions you can use to heal dmg to attributes, however they are expensive and not as effective as you expect. When I found this I just toggled the option to remove permnat debuff after rest. You recover 1 point per rest. And it seems to be that you can recover it resting anywhere.
