He already has a nice 12 gauge and a very nice M1 Garand. I am thinking he needs something a little smaller that might serve for a backpack. I have an Heritage Arms, Rough Rider combo .22LR and .22 magnum. (two cylinders) 5 1/2". If it is a timing issue there should be lead shavings in front of the cylinder before the forcing cone. If you see any excessive splatters or grey marks it is timing. My only other guess is that it is a headspace issue. I do have a RR also, never experienced your specific issue but it's common to have to also 'fiddle' with the cylinder to get everything to line up. FWIW: this is also the case with my Ruger Single six and blackhawk revolvers, as there is wiggle room in the cylinder but precision in getting that cylinder rod to line up just right.
