Front axles in the above-listed vehicles built before April 1, 2004 are manufactured with mineral-oil base axle fluid. Because of the 9.25" front axle assembly's internal design characteristics, there may be insufficient lubrication flow at very low ambient temperatures (-24°C (-12°F) or below).
Drive for at least 30 minutes (I drove mine for a month). Then drain and change spin-on again. Refill with TES-295. At 50k, change spin-on and top off. at 100k change spin-on again and top off. At 150k drain, change spin-on, refill. If you just pull the plug and spin-on, it takes 7.5 to 8 qts to refill.Just went with the Front Diff Cover for me, but TOTALLY LOADED up on ATF, Engine Oil, the Severe Gear, etc etc etc. for my 160k Service. Fill diff ~5-10 minutes. Install fill plug ~30 seconds. Reinstall skid plate ~60 seconds. Whole process not including jacking up the front of the truck might take 10-15 minutes depending on how fast you can pump the fluid back in. Very easy, absolutely no point in bringing it to a shop.

You will need just about 2 qts of 75W-90 for the front and just over 3 qts for the rear. I recommend guys use AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90 in the diffs. This is full synthetic that has a high shear rating and has a 100k mile drain interval.

On my latest oil change this week I asked my mechanic about changing the front Diff fluid.FYI ~ The Amsoil pump dispenses in 1 Oz shots. The Amsoil pump will likely only fit Amsoil Qts. I saved the cointainers for when I do my transfer case fluid (you have to use the OEM product). I put the whole 4 Oz of friction modifier in the rear diff, about 3 of the 4 Oz in the front diff (2 1/2 & 1 1/2 Qts of fluid respectively).The rear diff will take 4 qts of 75W-90 gear oil with the stock cover. If it's an aftermarket such as the Mag-Hytec it will take 7.5 qts. If you are doing a lot of towing or hauling heavy loads I recommend you use 75W-110 in the rear diff. The Amsoil Product for this is Severe Gear oil. If you have 4wd: The Front diff will take 2 qts 75W-90
