I replaced the stamped dear head birch stocks (which I still have) with some new Walnut checkered stocks I got off of ebay! The most significant difference is the stock. A 30A has a birch stock and no Marlin bullseye. The front sight is not on a ramp but dovetailed into the barrel. It has an endcap instead of bands. I know they marked the barrels “AS”starting in 1988 when the safety was added but I am not sure exactly when the roll mark on the barrel went back to “A”.
