A few years ago I bought a grandson a Stevens 555E in 20 ga. It's a nice gun but it's no Browning. I guess it probably depends on your budget but I recommend one of the 16 ga. South Dakota was REALLY good in the mid to late 2000's and above average the past 5 years. We (4 guys) hunt all public ground in South Dakota and a mixture of public and private in Kansas. You can find good bird hunting in Kansas, but your odds are better on finding good bird hunting in South Dakota. There's a reason it is the pheasant capital.

The dog had gone on the downwind side of the habitat, and I was standing on the other side, so I knew where she was. The rooster ran across about a 20 foot opening into another patch of habitat. 1.)
