At any rate, I can’t speak to how the AL13 compares to other DE razors, but as a product for someone that was just looking to ditch cartridge razors and improve their shave, I love this razor. The weight and feel is spot on, 36 vs 39 grams for the Mach 3 vs the AL13. The head design defines and maintains the optimal shave angle.I use a straight since it gives me the best shave possible. I've tried all options available. A straight razor leaves my skin the smoothest, and shaves the closest. Being fun to use, possibly economical, and a connection to the past is a nice bonus, but would mean little if the performance wasn't superior. 2.First, splash and then balm. I typically prefer unscented balm but ymmv. I tend to do either/or, mostly by scent or at random. If I have a lot of razor burn I tend toward a balm. If it's very hot or humid, I stay away from thicker, oily balms. Lighter "aftershave milk," gels, etc work fine in any weather for me. Gillette Nacet ( amazing for me ), Gillette Platinum, Gillette Silver Blue, Feather. You should try more though, I know when people say this, it’s a bit disappointing because you wish you could find the best blade asap but unfortunately there isn’t really a shortcut.
