Serpent Hunter does solid damage, so pairing it with a buffable lance with a variable skill means no need to micromanage the offhand. Just buff Lance and go to town with two greatspears.The one good thing is that it does insane poise damage so it can stagger most enemies. I feel like if the skill was buffed in some way the hammer would be a lot more viable. Marika's is nice for jumping where you normally can't. Nox flowing has a nice aoe skill. And just the normal hammer absolutely wrecks ng through about ng+4 pve (and pve only lol), particularly if you're mixing in guard counters with jumping and charged heavies - everything will kneel. but yeah range is a major issue for me with mace and morning ...
