My wife has recently purchased a 2000 Rav4 3 Door 2 litre. The car was bought as a non-runner with the intention of getting it going and using it as a runaround. The engine turns over but does not start. The fuel pump does not appear to be working with the ignition switched on, and there is no spark at the HT leads while cranking.GRASSCUTTER1. If the brake switch goes bad, the vehicle doesn't recognize when you're applying the brake and therefore the ignition won't be activated.

First: Check the battery terminals. Make sure posts are clean and terminals are tight. Second: Make sure when you put the key in the Run position before starting the engine you hear a light buzz from under the car for about 1 or 2 seconds. That's the fuel pump priming. If it ever DOES NOT do that, then the pump is kicking the bucket.
