I’ll go with the Shilen ratchet .850 straight and a length of 24”. I looked at the list of equipment that top competitors are using and Shilen has much more presence than Benchmark. The 0.850 straight seems just a better fit for the factory varmint walnut stock…. Especially when you go with 24” length.

Still a number of Shilen barrels in the Bench Rest winners circles. With the Bench rest crowd there is a lot of the follow the leader syndrome so barrels will come and go in popularity until a top competitor wins with one and everybody gets back on the bandwagon. It's still shooting well but I'm starting to think about ordering another barrel. I shoot mainly at 100 yards with Bart's 68 gr Ultras. The Bartlein is cut rifled but is about $100 more than the Shilen.I run Proof carbon barrels on a couple of my hunting rifles. One a 6 creed and the other a 6.5x284. They both shoot .25 moa. I have a couple hunters in 6 and 6.5 creed with Bartlien barrels as well. These rifles are shooters as well shooting sub .5 with factory Hornady ammunition in the 6.5 from Hornady and Copper Creek in the 6 creedmoor.Mar 29, 2564 BE ... Don't forget to pay attention to the chamber. I agree that you should start with good barrel, but the chamber is equally as important. I bought a 10/22 Shilen barrel a couple of years ago and the chamber was long. You could drop a round in the chamber and the bullet wouldn't engrave the rifleing lands. It was quite sloppy to be honest about it.
