They've got the largest shields of any heavy infantry, some of the strongest armor, and are brutal in close combat - plus they always seem to hit more often with their javelins than legionaries do.
Keep In mind thou, that archers aren't As good In melee As crossbow units thou, And if You Face an infantry heavy army, you might have To go into melee with your ranged units. If You absolutely want To go archers instead of crossbows, I would recommend 60/40 Or even maybe 50/50 ratio. Anyhow, that is just my two cents.

But for wars I keep it simple, I’ll have half my army infantry in the middle in a shield wall (asarai veterans, legionnaire, or sturgian spear/axemen) then 1/4 noble heavy cav a good distance away on the left, then 1/4 khans guards same distance away on the right. Best horse archer: Both khuzait and aserai horse archers are good but the best horse archers are the khuzait khans guard which are noble units. Best infantry: aserai have decent shock infantry with the palace guard but from my experience most people go with imperial legionaries as their front line due to their strong armour and shield.
