I’ve always used my own Wi-Fi router and enable bridge mode on Comcast devices. Very easy to do and no problems. It’s a typical scenario for the more advanced users. Just wanted to share that I experienced constant dropouts and connectivity issues with the XB7 and had to request a replacement. Had nothing to do with using in bridge mode.
I can still turn the hotspot on/off through web management. In the XFinity app you can test speed to the gateway. Select Connect then Internet heath then test speed to gateway. I am on bridge mode and it works. It is separate from device speed. I get around 1010-1020 Mbps.swift260. I don't think a pi-hole can be used when the rental gateway is used as a router. It doesn't give you an option to change the DNS server that's given by the DHCP server.
