This season is really odd. The animation style changed, for one. More jarring I think is that it is a series of bottle episodes, most of which only have two or three of the main cast in them. Season four ended with a four-episode ark tying all the plot points together, and then they tack on this extra season of inconsequential episodes.

All-New Wolverine, the Laura/X-23 run of Wolverine by Tom Taylor is pretty much a master piece. Laura is, genuinely, my preferred Wolverine at this point after that run.Wolverine's inevitable backlash of fan outrage stems from its flagrant disregard for its source material. It's Like A Terrible B-Movie X-Men Rip Off That Played With The Same Actor. There is no character to identify with. There is no one you would want to have a drink with when the film is over. There is no audience connection.
Rogue - Very versatile and very high output. Needs a little setup compared to most of the high entries (you need 2 resource generators quick) but she has lots of adaptability and some very high output potential as well. Gambit - Also can get some very high output plays and can push a lot of Aspect cards quite well.
Like you said, it just doesn't work. I hate that IvX happened. And now that Marvel/Disney finally got the right to X-Men and mutants, Inhumans got the same treatment with Death of the Inhumans.
