I’ve never had M1 thumb and I own a Garand. But I’ve seen plenty of people get a slide bite when using semi-auto pistols. I’m not sure why the M1 thumb is a “cautionary tale” and gets so much attention. Everyone makes such a big deal about M1 thumb but this happens much less frequently than pistol slide bite.
